Why Raj!?:

Many of you who were part of the 2015 election campaign recall that at Raj’s insistence, our local campaign adopted the “Community First” slogan.  It complemented well the “Real Change” national campaign slogan.  Many of you will recall from Raj’s anecdotes that as a person of colour, a son of immigrants, who grew up in Mississauga but moved to Kitchener over two and a half decades ago to establish his successful business, the Greenbrook Pharmacy in the Forest Hill neighbourhood, he was made to feel welcome and at home by our community.  The prospect of running to become our federal representative, was a perfect opportunity for Raj to give back to his community.  His priority was and has remained “Community First.”

Raj has not failed us.  In fact, he’s captured our imagination.  He has been an active elected official; not missing any local community events and celebrations whenever he’s not in Ottawa carrying out his duties there.  He is always accessible; and his down to earth personality draws in and piques the curiosity of even the most apolitical person to figure out who this guy is and what he’s all about.  Raj has continued to advocate on behalf of our community, initiating many visits from high profile ministers and the Prime Minister himself, to better acquaint themselves with the diverse and vibrant industry that’s part of our community’s success story, including the high-tech sector.  Many of these visits have generated new investments into our community, strengthened existing and created new partnerships.  He does us all proud sitting on not one but two parliamentary committees in Ottawa, including the prestigious Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, as one of its leading government members.

Many of you will agree that as our local Liberal Party of Canada representative, Raj has been part of a government that has over the past four years delivered “Real Change,” made vulnerable communities a priority and invested back in our collective well-being, including:

  • Taking action on climate change so that we can continue to have less pollution and live longer and healthier lifestyles;
  • Investing back in our families to help with the high cost of raising our kids by introducing a new Canada Child Benefit;
  • Forging a new relationship and following through with historic investments for Indigenous peoples;
  • Providing a more secure retirement for our seniors; and,
  • Continuing to make Canada a welcoming place for new Canadians and cherishing our country’s diversity, which is an economic benefit at the very least.

Raj is aware that there’s more to do, and we look forward to the upcoming government’s Budget and the Liberal Party’s National Platform, which will be released closer to the election.

However, the road ahead will not be an easy one.  As we are aware, there’s a growing global trend to turn to populism to solve our collective problems.  Closer to home we now have a Premier who dismisses scientific research and fact-based evidence in governing this Province. The Opposition parties at the federal level, especially the Conservatives, who have no plan of their own, are resorting to applying similar tactics as Doug Ford in order to get elected.  We are also witnessing the rise of other populists like Maxime Bernier, whose objective is to divide Canadians.

Now more than ever, we need to ensure that Raj Saini, a bridge-builder, a principled and an experienced elected representative is nominated as our candidate and re-elected as our Member of Parliament.  Now more than ever, we need to ensure that Kitchener Centre continues the tradition of being represented in Ottawa by hard-working individuals, the likes of John English and Karen Redman.

However, the Kitchener Centre Federal Liberal Association (KCFLA) cannot do this alone.  We need your help with door-knocking and sharing this positive message with our community members, fundraising and ensuring that we have enough resources to run a successful campaign and last but not least to have fun!

This joint effort starts on February 12th when we all gather to nominate Raj and to kick-off his and our re-election campaign.  This is promising to be a fun, exciting and motivating evening.  You do not wish to miss it!  Please don’t forget to RSVP if you haven’t done so already: info@kcfla.ca

Thank you in advancing for reading this important plea from the KCFLA and we look forward to seeing you on February 12th.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions, ideas, suggestions or concerns.
